At the May 2025 elections, 12 Liberal Democrats were elected, the official opposition to Reform. This is the Liberal Democrats' largest Kent County Council group for over 20 years.

The Chairman of Reform UK, Zia Yusuf, has said that Reform Councils will move “at speed” to resolve that only the St George's Flag and Union Flag can be flown from Council buildings.
Thursday's local elections in areas saw the Liberal Democrats come second, ahead of both the Conservatives and Labour for the first time in local elections. In Kent the group doubled to 12, and became the official opposition to Reform UK.
