Challenging KCC to fly the Pride flag

Councillor Mike Sole has challenged Reform run Kent County Council on its announcement that it will no longer fly the Pride flag from its buildings during Pride Month.
Mike asked if the council would reconsider the decision, saying:
“Flying the Pride flag is a visible affirmation of this council’s commitment to equality, inclusion, and respect for all members of the community—especially LGBTQ+ residents, who have historically faced discrimination and marginalization.”
Mike added:
“When choosing to fly the flag, Kent County Council sends a powerful message that everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, is welcome, valued, and safe, whereas to stop flying the Pride flag will be interpreted as a retreat from these principles signalling that the council is indifferent to the continued challenges faced by LGBTQ+ people, including discrimination, mental health struggles, and underrepresentation, damaging trust, morale, and the perception that the council serves all constituents equally.”
The Reform run council refused to engage with LGBTQ+ organisations before adopting the policy and doubled down on its policy to no longer fly the Pride flag.
