Peter Carroll

Maidstone & The Weald Liberal Democrats have selected well known fuel duty campaigner and fighter for Gurkha rights, Peter Carroll, as their Prospective Parliamentary Candidate.

The selection was keenly fought and local members made the final selection at a packed hustings meeting in Coxheath Village Hall on Saturday 26th July. Peter has been a well known spokesman for the Lib Dems in Kent for a number of years. He operates Seymour Transport of Maidstone and has several other business interests in the town.

Peter said:

"Maidstone is used to having an MP with a strong voice in Parliament. I know that local people want that to continue. I have strong ties with the Maidstone area and many local people have expressed strong support for my National campaigns on Fuel Duty and on getting a fair deal for retired Gurkha soldiers.

"Maidstone faces many challenges in the coming years and people can be assured that I will fight for them on the key issues - the battle to retain services at Maidstone Hospital and the defeat of the Kent International Gateway at Bearsted are two major examples."

Local Chair of Maidstone & the Weald Lib Dems Rochelle Harris said:

"Maidstone is the strongest Lib Dem area in Kent for our Party. Our Council group is doing a brilliant job at holding the Tories to account and we are working hard to win the Council back.

"Many of us that have worked with Peter in the past know that he is a real fighter for people who have problems and that he will be a great advocate for our area."
