Congratulations to Canterbury Lib Dems: Lib Dems hold Barton

The Liberal Democrats have won the Barton ward by-election to Canterbury City Council with Michael Steed winning the seat with a 292 majority. The majority has increased from 224 in May 2007 when the seat was last contested.

The result (10 July 2008) was:

  • Lib Dem Michael Steed: 993 (51.8%)

  • Con: 701 (36.6%)

  • Green: 121 (6.3%)

  • Independent: 102 (5.3%)

Turnout 33%.

The 2007 election figures were:

  • Lee Glendon (Lib Dem) 1098 Elected

  • Paula Vickers (Lib Dem) 1074 Elected

  • Adam Parsons (Lib Dem) 1054 Elected

  • Con 874

  • Con 780

  • Con 744

  • Lab 230

  • Council Tax Payers Party 225

  • Council Tax Payers Party 186

  • Independent 154

Turnout 39%.
