Tonight (Thursday), Worthing Liberal Democrat Councillors will be joined at the Full council meeting by Former Tory Councillor Nick John following the decision of the Tory Cabinet on Tuesday to ignore the views of almost 3000 residents against the development of a NEW Headquarters for Worthing Yacht Club on PUBLIC OPEN SPACE land on Goring seafront.

Commenting ahead of tonight's Full Council meeting, Worthing Lib Dem Group Leader, Cllr Bob Smytherman said:

"I am delighted Nick has agreed to join us at a very exciting time for the party and all of my colleagues made him very welcome at last night's group meeting ahead of Full Council.

"This news will give the local party a real boost as we move towards the next local election in May when we will expose the disaster of the "merger" with Adur which will see residents from Goring and the rest of the town in the future have decisions imposed on them by Councillors elected as far away as Southwick and Fishersgate!"

Former Independent Councillor Nick John added:

"I resigned from the Tory group some weeks ago and spent the last Council meeting sitting as an Independent, I now feel the time has come for the sake of the future of Worthing to stand together with the Liberal Democrat opposition to expose the short-comings and lack of political leadership of this current Tory administration and I would urge anyone frustrated by the lack of vision and delivery by this Council to join with us under the strong Leadership of Bob Smytherman and Geraldine Lissenburg."
