Absent vote identifiers: further advice

12.49.23pm GMT Wed 7th Mar 2007

An issue has come up concerning postal vote application forms sent in to local councils. Some returning officers have refused to accept applications on forms supplied by the political parties. The Electoral Commission Guidance is quite clear that ROs must accept any application as long as it comes in the prescribed format. An RO should not reject any application on the grounds that it is not on the RO's own form.

Please note this should this issue come up with your own local returning officer/s. The guidance from the Electoral Commission can be found in the download area of this website.
