Lib Dems are calling on the Government to make Buses more accessible!
Lib Dem Transport Spokesperson Baroness Randerson is calling on the Government to include criteria for accessibility requirements in the upcoming Bus Services Bill.
“This is a glaring omission and one that is detrimental to the diverse society in which we live. I recently met with Brighton Buses who are leading the way in terms of catering for those with disabilities via ‘Helping Hand’, enabling greater confidence in public bus services, tailoring their yellow card scheme to the needs of individuals through a multi-operator and multi-modal structure.” By training drivers to recognise the requirements of passengers based on the customised messaging on cards that can be requested by anyone and used to hail buses, you enable disabled people to communicate with the driver in a way that does not demean or embarrass them.
The Government should be encouraging other local areas to follow Brighton in their innovative approach to bus travel and social responsibility”.
